Kenya, Sierra Leone to sign 7 MoUs after bilateral talks

President Uhuru Kenyatta receives visiting President of Sierra Leone Julius Maada Bio at State House, Nairobi, on May 30, 2022/ PSCU

President Uhuru Kenyatta and First Lady Margaret Kenyatta on Monday received visiting President of Sierra Leone Julius Maada Bio and his spouse, Fatima Maada Bio, at State House, Nairobi.

According to State House press, the elaborate State Reception ceremony included a Guard of Honour mounted by a detachment of the Kenya Air Force and a 21-Gun Salute.

President Julius Maada Bio is in the country on a State Visit during which he will be the Chief Guest at this year’s Madaraka Day national celebrations at Uhuru Gardens. He will also hold bilateral talks with President Kenyatta.

During the bilateral talks, it is expected that seven MoUs aimed at further enhancing relations will be signed.

He arrived on Saturday night for a five-day visit and was received by Foreign Affairs CS Raychelle Omamo.

President Bio also graced the International Day of UN Peacekeepers at International Peace Support Centre, Embakasi, on Sunday.

The Sierra Leone President thanked Kenya Defence Forces for helping end the conflict between the Revolutionary United Front rebels and government forces.

He also paid tribute to four Kenya solders who died during the United Nations Mission in Sierra Leone mission.

CS Omamo affirmed the great partnership between Kenya and Sierra Leone and termed it as a shining example of how African countries can build each other in times of turmoil, She emphasized that when people come together in search for peace, there is success.
