Kenya’s Foreign Affairs Chief Administrative Secretary Ababu Namwamba on Tuesday met Somalia Prime Minister Hassan Khaire in a follow up to the New York talks between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Mohammed Farmaajo.
“Held talks this evening with Somalia Prime Minister H.E Hassan Ali Khaire in Mogadishu on bilateral issues of mutual interest to Kenya and Somalia, accompanied by Kenya’s Ambassador to Somalia Gen. (Rtd) Lucas Tumbo and @ForeignOfficeKE Director for Peace & Security John Kilonzi,” Ababu tweeted.
Ababu arrived in Mogadishu “from our very fruitful engagements at the 74th UN General Assembly in New York” and was received by Ambassador Tumbo, KDF officers and Somalia government officials.
A Kenyan-Somali committee to negotiate the maritime border dispute will be formed following a meeting between President Kenyatta and Farmaajo in New York last month.
The committee will start working towards “adopting measures for restoring confidence and resolving all problems so as to normalize bilateral relations”.
The two countries, however, said the committee will not affect the ICJ case that will start this month.
