The wife of former Minneapolis officer Derek Chauvin, has filed for dissolution of marriage. Derek Chauvin was arrested on Friday after killing George Floyd by kneeling on his neck for 8 minutes straight.
According to a statement from Sekula Family Law office, Mrs Chauvin expressed desire to separate from her husband and asked for privacy of her family members during this difficult time.
“This evening, I spoke with Kellie Chauvin and her family. Mr. Floyd’s death devastated her. Her utmost sympathy lies with his family, with his loved ones and with everyone who is grieving this tragedy. She has filed for dissolution of marriage to Derek Chauvin,” reads the statement from her attorney.
“While Ms Chauvin has no children from her current marriage, she respectfully requests that her children, her elder parents and her extended family be given safety and privacy during this difficult time,”
Ex-officer Derek Chauvin, killed unharmed George Floyd by kneeling on his neck for 8 minutes straight. Onlookers recorded Derek killing Floyd and despite pleas from onlookers to stop, he never took his knee off Floyd’s neck.
The Justice System charged Derek with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in the death of George Floyd.

His death sparked outrage and protests across the country, demonstrations that continued Thursday.
Governor Waltz said, “It is time to rebuild. Rebuild the city, rebuild our justice system, and rebuild the relationship between law enforcement and those they’re charged to protect. George Floyd’s death should lead to justice and systemic change, not more death and destruction.”
However, US President Donald Trump has said if looting continues in Minneapolis, then shooting will start.
President Trump spoke to Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and told him that “the Military is with him all the way”.
